: Launches KEEP in Shira, Giade LGAs

Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi state on Wednesday said his administration has placed a high premium on the empowerment of citizens of the state particularly women and youth in a bid to lift them out of poverty and unemployment.

The governor disclosed this at the official launching of the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme (KEEP) for beneficiaries in Shira and Giade local government areas of the state.

Governor Bala Mohammed said the administration has initiated a number of empowerment programmes for job creation so as to uplift the socio-economic well-being of the beneficiaries.

He said the Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme has been designed to boost economic activities in the state in order to address the problem of unemployment and alleviate poverty among the people.

"This Kaura Economic Empowerment Programme is all about making the good people of Bauchi state self-reliant by providing them with the conducive environment to be economically productive.

"With today's launching of the programme in Shira and Giade Local Government Areas, it could be said that over 50% of the State has been covered by the economic intervention." In each of the local government we launched the programme, 75 million naira has been expended through cash and other empowerment items.
 
The governor once again tasked the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity by properly managing the cash and items given to them to boost their economic status and assist others. 

He assured that his administration will continue to explore more ways and means of poverty alleviation and called on people of the state to sustain their support and cooperation to his administration for better service delivery.

"I want to assure the good people of Bauchi state that my administration will continue to deploy its managerial competence in the management of the scare resources to ensure that the majority of the people of the State benefit from our various poverty alleviation intervention initiatives."

Governor Bala Mohammed said in addition to the investments made in women and youth empowerment, his administration has invested heavily on education and health sectors being the most critical sectors of human development.

On her part, the state first lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed applauded Governor Bala Mohammed for coming up with the economic empowerment programme for the benefit of people of the state especially women and youth and urged the beneficiaries to utilize opportunity to boost their economic status.

Earlier in their separate welcome address , chairmen of the local Government areas applauded Governor Bala for this laudable initiative and promised to reciprocate the gesture.
